A Day in The Life

Throughout the school year, the City Year New Orleans corps spends 10-12 hours a day serving ɫ and supporting teachers. Corps members split their time supporting ɫ in math, science, and English language arts interventions, and providing whole-classroom support for teachers by circulating around the room and answering ɫ’ questions.

Corps members are equally committed to establishing meaningful one-on-one connections with their ɫ by helping them succeed socially-emotionally. They hold daily check-ins with ɫ who benefit from mentorship and look to develop critical thinking and emotional intelligence skills while establishing weekly goals, reflecting on areas of improvement, and celebrating growth.

Service to ɫ does not end once the bell rings. Each corps member leads or supports tutoring and after school programming in areas such as chess, STEM, entrepreneurship, soccer, and dance to learn and advance skills and passions.

Additionally, these teams look for ways to engage their school communities by organizing events like The Arthur School’s Founder’s Fest which brought together ɫ and their families for an evening of community-building, and Elan Academy’s holiday celebration which showcased student writing and had over 150 families in attendance.
