City Year Los Angeles Teacher Spotlight- Part 3

How many years have you been teaching?

“I have been teaching for four years at my alma mater, Roosevelt High School. I teach English, Ethnic Studies, and Journalism to 9th and 10th-gradeɫ.”

How has City Year helped you in the classroom?

“Inside the classroom City Year, AmeriCorps members have been able to balance the [student’s] energies and help provide assistance to the ɫ. AmeriCorps members have also helped with supporting ɫ to build their social-emotional skill development. I have appreciated having another adult in the classroom to work with ɫ.”

What is your favorite thing about teaching 9th and 10th-gradeɫ?

“Teaching at Roosevelt High School has been such an amazing experience since I am able to work alongside my former teachers who are now my colleagues. I enjoy that I have been able to expand on my relationships with my past teachers. I like that I also get to learn about new music through my ɫ.
