Serviced by three major airports and , a major hub for both Amtrak trains and Greyhound buses, DC is perfect for transplants who want convenient options for travel home and to new places. For commuters or those who just want to explore , the Metro subway is a reliable and affordable option, with lines that connect both urban and suburban parts of the metropolitan area. AmeriCorps members serving in Washington, DC even receive a $200 SmartTrip Metro Card each month!

In DC, you don’t have to break the bank in order to have access to its world-renowned museums and monuments. As you stroll along the National Mall, you can’t miss the , consisting of 17 museums, galleries and a zoo (located in the Northwest part of the city), all with free admission. Thinking about furthering your education? Well, Washington, DC is the perfect place for you. Whether you want to pursue your undergraduate or graduate degree, you’ll be able to choose from countless area colleges and universities—20 of which are located in the city of DC! City Year AmeriCorps members who successfully complete a year of service also are eligible for scholarships to some of the area’s best universities like Johns Hopkins, Georgetown and American University.

Many businesses like Lockheed Martin, Capital One and Hilton Worldwide are headquartered in the area – and then of course there’s the Federal Government which alone employs 140,000 people locally.
